To Insert a New Instance of a Component, Nested Below Another Component (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

  1. To insert the new instance as a child of an existing component, in the mechanical browser, double-click the component view you want to use as the parent view. A blue highlight is displayed across the component view node, indicating that it is active.

    When you set a component or folder to Active, any new component is nested under the active component folder.

    Note:
    • If you do not activate a component view of folder, the new instance is inserted directly below the root.
    • You cannot insert components below standard part views, standard features, shaft component views, annotation views, and AMDETAIL views.
  2. Click Structure tabTools panelStructure Catalog. Find
  3. Click the Current Drawing tab.
  4. From the Definitions panel in the Mechanical Structure section, drag a component view of the component you want to insert, to anywhere on the drawing area. In the drawing area, a floating preview of the component view geometry is displayed.
  5. Move the pointer to the position you want to insert the geometry and click.
  6. Press Enter to accept the default rotation angle, or specify a rotation angle and press Enter.

    The inserted instance of the component is shown in the mechanical browser. The bill of materials reflects that another instance of the component is added.

  7. Double-click the root node to reset the activated component view.
