About Inserting Components and Folders in a Drawing (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

In a drawing, once a component view or folder has been defined, you can insert instances of the definition in the drawing, similar to how you would reuse a block after you create the block definition.

When you insert a component view, the BOM automatically updates.

AutoCAD Mechanical toolset provides two command for inserting components and folders; AMSNEW and AMSINSERT. AMSNEW obtains your inputs through a dialog box while AMSINSERT obtains the required inputs through the command line. However, the most convenient method of inserting components and folders is to use the structure catalog. The structure catalog displays a list of existing component and folder definitions, in the Current Drawing tab. You can drag component views from this tab and place them directly in the drawing. Right-click the component in the mechanical browser and insert the remaining views.
