Note: Some options in this dialog box are named only in tooltips.

Symbol Tab

Options

Flip sides

Flips the position of the joint annotation text, such that it is placed below the reference line. The icon to the left of the check box shows the result of your selection. This option is not available if the joint type is set to stitching.

Flip symbol

Flips the symbol so that the joint annotation text appears to the left of the arrow. The icon to the left of the check box shows the result of your selection.

Library

Lists all the dead joint symbols for the active drafting standard/revision in the symbol library. When you move the pointer over an item, all settings for that item appear in a tooltip. Each item in the library is associated with a context-sensitive menu.

Menu options

Load

Loads the selected symbol from the library. The current settings in the Dead Joint dialog box are overwritten. Load operations ignore the Flip symbol check box.

Update

Overwrites the selected symbol in the library with the current settings of the Dead Joint dialog box. The preview updates to reflect the new settings. The name of the symbol and default status do not change.

Delete

Removes the selected symbol from the library.

Rename

Makes the symbol name editable. AutoCAD Mechanical toolset validates the name to ensure that the symbol names are unique.

Set default

Makes the selected symbol the default symbol of the library. A blue check mark appears next to the symbol to indicate that it is the default symbol. The next time you create a dead joint symbol, the default symbol loads automatically.

Remove default

Removes the default status of the selected symbol. This menu option is available only on the default symbol. When there is no default symbol selected, the Dead Joint dialog box defaults to the settings of the dead joint symbol you created or edited most recently.

Add

Saves current settings to the symbol library as a new item in the library. A prompt enables you to name the new item.

Import

Imports the dead joint symbols from the symbol library of another drawing. You can only import symbols of the same standard and revision as the dead joint symbol you are editing.

Requirements

Insert symbol

Displays a palette to enable you to insert a special character (for example, the degree symbol) in the joint annotation box, at the current cursor position.

Joint annotation

Provides a space to specify the joint annotation text. Typically, this box contains a reference to the technical requirements of the joint.

Second joint annotation

Provides a space to specify additional joint annotation text. This box is visible only if the joint type is set to stitching. Typically, this box specifies the number of stitches and the distance between them.

All-around

Inserts the all around indication to the symbol.

Leader symbol

Displays a palette of permanent joint symbols to enable you to specify the joint type. A tooltip describes what each symbol in the palette represents. The following joint types are supported:

  • Soldering
  • Gluing
  • Stitching
  • Stitching with staples (overlapping)
  • Stitching with staples (contour joint)

Clear

Clears all data and returns the dialog box options to its default settings.

Leader and Text tab

Arrowhead

Specifies the type of the leader arrowhead. When the arrowhead is set to By Standard, it acquires the arrowhead from the current drafting standard. Thereafter, if you change the settings for the drafting standard, the arrowhead for this symbol updates automatically.

Edit object attachment

Attach

Attaches the symbol to an object in the drawing. When attached, if you move the object the symbol moves with it.

Detach

Detaches the symbol. The symbol becomes a free-standing object.

Settings

Opens the Dead Joint Settings dialog box and enables you to edit the default settings for dead joint symbols for the current drafting standard.
