From the BOM, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset can produce four reports, which you can display in Microsoft Excel.
You can use the Report Generator option in the BOM dialog box to customize the reports.
The reports are:
Lists all the items in the BOM, similar to how items are defined in the structured view of the BOM. If there are multiple occurrences of a part within the same assembly, their quantities are summed and shown in a single row. (The quantities of identical items that have the same parent item are summed). Conversely, the same part occurring in two different assemblies are shown as two separate items. (The quantities of identical parts that do not have the same parent item are not summed).
Lists all parts and assemblies (Part References) that have external BOMs attached to them. The quantity column is not displayed by default. However, should you choose to display the quantity, it will show the total quantity of the part in the drawing.
Lists all items in the BOM, grouped by Item type.
A combination of the BOM List and the Summary. It lists all the items in the BOM as shown in the structured view of the BOM, but grouped by item type. It shows the quantity of each part within an assembly as well as the total quantity of that part for that drawing.
AutoCAD Mechanical toolset uses Microsoft Excel to generate reports. If you do not have Microsoft Excel on your computer you cannot use the report feature. The report generator uses a set of xls files as report templates (see link to "Location of Support files", below). You can use Microsoft Excel to modify these templates and do the following:
In addition to the above reports, you can use mask files to format print outs of BOMs and Parts Lists. When you select the Print option in the BOM dialog box, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset displays the Print dialog box. In this dialog box, you can select a mask file to use to format the printout. Mask files describe the presentation of BOMs and Parts Lists, specifying the appearance of text and other elements. Use the Mask Editor to create and edit mask files. See the topic " Format Parts Lists for Printing" for more information about the Mask Editor.
