To Use Windows' Cut, Copy, and Paste With Component Views and Folders (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

Mechanical structure component views and folders can be copied or cut to the Clipboard, and pasted in the same drawing or in a different drawing.

Copy or cut component views or folders

The method of copying or cutting component views or folders to the clipboard is similar to how you copy or cut any other AutoCAD object to the Clipboard. The only apparent difference is when you select objects. To select a component view or folder, continue clicking the geometry until you see the component view name or folder name in the tooltip window.

If the selected component views or folders are involved in a hide situation, details of the hide situation are also copied or cut to the Clipboard.

Ghost components cannot be copied or cut to the Clipboard. If a ghost component view is selected, only the geometry is copied or cut to the Clipboard. No structure information is copied or cut to the Clipboard.

Pasting component views or folders

When you paste a component view or folder from the Clipboard, it is pasted as a new instance. At the time you paste, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset compares the structure of the component or folder in the Clipboard with the corresponding definition in the current drawing. If a mismatch is detected, the component or folder is pasted as a new component or folder. If the Do not prompt option in the AM:Structure tab of the Options dialog box has been cleared, a dialog box is displayed where you can specify the name for the new component/folder.
