About Section View Styles in AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset

A section view style is a named collection of settings that control the appearance of section lines and section view labels created by the AMSECTIONLINE command. They also control the appearance of model documentation section views.

Section view styles control the appearance of the following:
  • Section view labels
  • Section line identifiers
  • Line representing cutting plane
  • Line segments used for ends and bends
  • Direction arrows
  • Hatch (model documentation only)

Section view styles also control the default textual content of section view labels.

The settings that control the appearance of AutoCAD Mechanical toolset objects are saved to a named collection of settings known as the drafting standard. Section view styles are saved with the drafting standard and are treated as revisions of the drafting standard.

AutoCAD section view styles are indicated by the icon. AutoCAD Mechanical toolset section view styles are indicated by the icon. Only AutoCAD Mechanical toolset section view styles can inherit text and leader settings from the master settings of the drafting standard.

Note: If you save a drawing file to the AutoCAD Mechanical 2013 format, AutoCAD Mechanical section view styles are converted to AutoCAD section view styles.

When the text size for section line and section view labels is “By NameOfCurrentDraftingStandard,” they automatically take on a text height that is one size larger than the base height master setting. Section line and section view labels become larger than dimension, note, and symbol text. If you modify the master settings, the text size for section line and section view labels automatically updates.

New section view styles you create from the Section View Style Manager are created as AutoCAD section view styles. Never as AutoCAD Mechanical toolset section view styles. AutoCAD Mechanical toolset section view styles are part of the drafting standard and are created automatically.

Section lines created by the AMSECTIONLINE command and model documentation section views always follow the current section view style specified as part of the drafting standard. As such both the AMSECTIONLINE command and model documentation section views follow the same drafting standard settings.
