To Copy a Component From Another Drawing (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

  1. Click Structure tabTools panelStructure Catalog. Find
  2. From the External Drawings tab or Favorites tab, in the Files section, select the drawing file that contains the component you want to copy.
  3. From the Mechanical Structure panel in the Details section, hold down the CTRL key, and drag a component view from the component you want to insert, to anywhere on the drawing area. In the drawing area, a floating preview of the component view geometry is displayed.
    Note:
    • If the current drawing already contains a component with the same name as the one you are dragging, the Rename dialog box is displayed so that you can specify a new name for it.
    • If the component you are attempting to insert is an assembly that contains xref parts, you cannot copy by dragging. Use copy and paste instead.
  4. Move the cursor to the position you want to insert the geometry and click.
  5. Press Enter to accept the default rotation angle or specify a rotation angle and press Enter.

The component is inserted and is shown in the mechanical browser.
