To customize keyboard shortcuts

To set a new shortcut key:

  1. Right-click the ribbon and select Customize the ribbon.
  2. Select Customize to display the Customize Keyboard dialog.
  3. Select a category in the Categories list.
  4. Select a command from the Commands list.

If the command already has a shortcut, it is listed under Current keys.

  5. To assign a new key, select the Press new shortcut key field and press the keys that you want to use as the shortcut.
  6. Note: Press the keys on the keyboard, for example, press and hold down the Alt key and press the N key; do not type ALT + N.

The Assigned to section is displayed to show if the keyboard shortcut you entered is already in use. Using this shortcut will remove it from the other item.

  7. Click the Assign button to save the new shortcut.
  8. Note: If you click Assign after receiving a warning that the shortcut is already assigned to a command, the shortcut is removed from the existing command and assigned to the new command.
