Select the segment
Type:
-
Dwell indicates an arc of rotation that neither rises nor falls but whose diameter from the center is determined from the ending displacement of the directly preceding segment.
Duration sets how many degrees of rotation the dwell lasts.
-
Rise indicates that this segment rises to a greater diameter than the preceding segment. If this segment is the first segment, rise is calculated from the base circle defined in the
General tab.
Duration sets how many degrees across which the rise occurs.
Displacement sets how far the rise deviates from the previous segment or the base circle if the segment is the first segment defined for the cam.
-
Fall indicates that this segment decreases from some displacement to a lower displacement, but never less than the base circle defined in the
General tab. So a fall should not be the first segment defined. Use
Cams to create the geometric profile of various reciprocating cams. It is the actual profile of the cam, not the pitch curve (center line of the follower).
