Radial Pin Generator dialog box - Calculation Tab

This tab extends the Design tab. You can calculate generator data based on selections in the Design tab.

Access:

Ribbon: Design tab Fasten panel Radial Pin and click the Calculation tab.

Type of Strength Calculation

Specifies a calculation method you select from the list. It determines which are input parameters and which parameters are to be calculated.

Note: The selection list is enabled only when a pin is selected.

Pin Design

Designs optimum radial pin dimensions for the indicated load, dimensions, and joint properties.

Check Calculation

Performs a strength check for the specified load, dimensions, and joint properties.

Loads

Loading is entered through power, speed or torque according to the selected method in the roll-down menu.

Power, Torque Speed

Calculates the speed according to the power and torque.

Torque, Speed Power

Calculates the power according to the torque and speed.

Power, Speed Torque

Calculates the torque according to the power and speed.

Dimensions

Pin Diameter

Choose a diameter of the pin.

Pin Length

Specifies the length of the pin.

Shaft Diameter

Specifies the diameter of the shaft. Based on this dimension the appropriate pin is selected. You can enter the diameter or measure the diameter in ProdName using the options displayed when you click the arrow next to the edit field.

Hub Diameter

Specifies a diameter for the hub appropriate to the part dimensions. If the hub diameter is smaller than the shaft diameter, the diameters turn red. This also indicates that the strength check of the pin is not satisfactory. You can enter the diameter or measure the diameter in ProdName using the options displayed when you click the arrow next to the edit field.

Note: The values in the edit field that are not satisfactory turn red when you click Calculate.

Joint Properties

Service Factor

Represents a Type of Loading and type of Mounting. The allowed material value is lowered according to the selected type. Click next to edit field to open the Service Factor dialog box where you can select the Service Factor value.

Desired Safety

With regards to accuracy and credibility of input information, importance of the coupling, quality of production and accuracy of the calculation, it is chosen in a range from 1.5 to 10.

Pin Material

Warning: Determines empirically the strength parameters of material and reflects minimum values applicable for a group of materials. Although these values are close to the values obtained using measurement of particular materials, it is recommended in final calculations to use parameters of material according to the material sheet or specifications of the producer.

Material

Specifies material values you enter or material you select from the Material Database.

If a material is selected from the Material Database, its values are inserted automatically, and the edit fields are locked. To unlock the field clear the check box.

Allowable Shear Stress

Specifies the allowable pin shear stress used in the calculation. The pin is checked for shear during the strength check.

Shaft Material

Material

Specifies material values you enter or material you select from the Material Database.

If a material is selected from the Material Database, its values are inserted automatically, and the edit fields are locked. To unlock the field, clear the check box.

Allowable Pressure

Enters the allowable pressure of the radial pin material with the least quality in the Joint Properties group. The pin is checked for pressure during the strength check.

Allowable Shear Stress

Specifies the allowable pin shear stress used in calculation. The radial pin is checked for shear during the strength check.

Hub Material

Material

Specifies material values you enter or material you select from the Material Database.

If a material is selected from the Material Database, its values are inserted automatically, and the edit fields are locked. To unlock the field, clear the check box.

Allowable Pressure

Enters the allowable pressure of the rod material with the least quality in the Joint Properties group. The rod is checked for pressure during the strength check.

Results

To display the Results area on the right side of the Calculation tab, at the bottom of the tab double-click the double line on the right or click the chevron.

The area displays the calculated values and the radial pin strength check. Values are calculated when you click Calculate.

The units of the results values can be changed. Double-click the specified value you want to change.

Summary of Messages

Displays the reports about calculations. To open the Summary of Messages area at the bottom of the Calculation and Design tabs, double-click the double line at the bottom of tabs or click the chevron at the bottom of the tabs.
