About iProperties

A set of attributes for each Inventor file such as part number, description and physical material. You can also create custom iProperties.

Autodesk Inventor files have properties called iProperties. If the file contains more than one Model State, each Model State can have unique iProperties. Use iProperties to track and manage files, create reports, and automatically update assembly bills of materials, drawing parts lists, title blocks, and other information.

Author and Part Number iProperties are set automatically in new model and drawing files.

You can set and view other iProperties when the file is open in Autodesk Inventor, but you can also right-click the file in Microsoft Windows Explorer to view its iProperties, or use Design Assistant to work with files outside Autodesk Inventor.

To avoid losing unsaved changes, always save an open Autodesk Inventor file before using Design Assistant to change its iProperties.

You can create and edit expressions for iProperties in the Properties dialog box. Since expressions are not evaluated mathematically, expressions are created for text type iProperties only. An expression can contain a combination of custom text and Parameter and iProperty names enclosed by brackets. The Parameter and iProperty names are substituted by the Parameter and iProperty values when the expression is evaluated.

Tip: Create a template file with pre-defined expressions for iProperties to unify your parts lists, or other documentation.
