Work Environment

When you install Inventor, a default ribbon, browsers, marking menu, and tools are available for each work environment.

When you create a file or open an existing one, you also open the appropriate work environment for that file.

You can set options for setup and behavior of documents in Document Settings, and of the application in Application Options, and customize the work environment further.

Projects in the Work Environment

A project is a system for organizing and accessing all files that are associated with a particular design job.

Projects use a project (.ipj) file to store the paths to folders where your design data are located. The Project wizard steps you through the process to create a project.

Command Aliases and Shortcuts

A command alias is a character or character sequence that starts a command for modeling and other tasks in any environment. Shortcuts are used primarily for transparent commands, such as zoom or pan, and for file utility functions, such as printing. You can see many predefined shortcut keys or command aliases when you pause the cursor over a command.

You can define your own shortcuts and command aliases, and you can import and export them as XML files.
