Licensing for ETO Server

Inventor ETO Server uses Session-Specific Network Licensing, and does not support either Standalone Licensing or Standard Network Licensing. Session-Specific Network Licensing requires a Network Licensing Manager server and is similar to Standard Network Licensing, with a few exceptions described below.

1 License = 10 Concurrent Sessions

Every license of Inventor ETO Server entitles customers to 10 (ten) concurrent sessions (or instances).

Customer applications handle the case where all sessions of a server are in use and no more are available. If you need to support additional concurrent users, there are two options:

Network License Manager

Requirements

You can set up your Network License Manager server on 32-bit or 64-bit hardware. See the NLM System Requirements.

Session-Specific Network Licensing (SSNL) and Standard Network Licensing (SNL)

Autodesk Session Specific Network Licensing model differs from its Standard Network Licensing model in several ways. Be aware of the following before you set up a Network License Manager server for Inventor ETO Server:
  • Use a separate server. You cannot host session-specific licenses side by side with standard network licenses on a single server. Use a different server to host each of the license types.
  • Licensed per session, not per computer. Each instance of Inventor ETO Server consumes a separate seat from the session-specific server. For example, if you have three instances of Inventor ETO Server running on Computer X and two instances running on Computer Y, a total of five seats are consumed from the session-specific server. This is different from standard network licensing behavior, in which only one seat is consumed per client computer.
  • No prior version support. Inventor ETO Server licenses are only compatible with the current release, and not with legacy releases.
  • No license borrowing. You cannot borrow session-specific licenses from the server for offline use.

Network License Manager Setup

Setting up a Network License Manager server to manage the session-specific licenses of Inventor ETO Server is the same as setting up a Standard Autodesk Network License Manager server. For more information on how to set up your Network License Manager server, refer to the video, Setting up the Network License Manager for Autodesk Products (link below). This video walks you through the process to use your Serial Number, get a license file, and configure and start your license manager server.

License Manager/Inventor ETO Server Cohabitation

Do not install the Network License Manager and the Inventor ETO Server on the same machine in your production environment. Installing the two on the same machine can yield sporadic failures, and is not supported. If you do it for testing purposes, change the name of the server in the LICPATH.LIC to 127.0.0.1. The content of the file looks like this after you make the change:

SERVER 127.0.0.1 000000000000

USE_SERVER

This file is located in the base install directory of Inventor ETO Server (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor ETO Server <year>\LICPATH.LIC).
