To Convert Text Objects to a Text Layer

If your annotation data is currently stored as Text or MText, you can convert it to an FDO text layer. A text layer is stored as a separate data store, which you can reuse in multiple maps.

To convert text objects to a text layer

  1. — Click Annotate > Map Annotation > Text To Text Layer.
  2. In the Create Text Layer dialog box, specify the text object(s) to convert by doing one of the following:
    • Click Select All Text to convert every text object in the drawing.
    • Click to go to the map where you can choose each text object to convert. Press Enter when you are finished to return to the dialog box. Clicking the button automatically enables Select Manually.
    • Under Filter Selection, enter or select existing AutoCAD layers to convert only the text objects on those layers.
  3. Select an existing feature class in which to store the text, or specify the name for a new feature class.

If you specify a new feature class name, AutoCAD Map 3D toolset will create a new file-based data store for the text. You can store the text layer as an SDF or SQLite file. You can connect to this feature store from any map.

  4. Click OK to convert the text object(s) to an FDO text layer.
