You can modify many properties for the entire stair or for individual stair components in an assembled stair.
For example, you can modify the connection method in a precast stair, or specify whether to use a smooth or stepped surface on the underside of a run. For information on accessing the component properties, see
Select a Stair Component for Editing. For information on the options, see the topics under
Stair by Component Properties.

To modify an instance property, you change the value of the corresponding parameter, as described under

To access type properties for stair components
- Use one of the following methods to access the Type Properties dialog for the stair component:
- In a project (not in stair assembly edit mode), select the stair, and on the Properties palette, click
(Edit Type).
- In stair assembly edit mode, click outside of the stair (click in a blank spot in the drawing area), and the instance properties display for the stair component. On the Properties palette, click
(Edit Type).
- In the Type Properties dialog for the stair, click the value for one of the following properties, then click the browse button
that displays on the right side of the field.
- Run Type
- Landing Type
- Right Support Type
- Left Support Type
The Type Properties dialog for the component displays. You can modify the existing type or duplicate the type to create a new one.
Note: You can select an individual stair component directly (run, landing, or support) and access the type properties for editing, but you cannot duplicate the type. To create a new type of stair component, you must use the procedure above to access the component type properties from the stair type properties.
