Create a Support Component

Use the Support tool to add a side support to a stair.

You can select individual run or landing edges, or use Tab to highlight a continuous stair boundary. This tool is helpful if you inadvertently delete a support or create complex stairs, such as a T-shaped or scissor-shaped stair, where the desired supports may not be created automatically.

Note: You can only add a support to a stair if the corresponding Right Support, Left Support, and Support Type properties are specified in the type properties for the stair. For example, if the Right Support property is set to "None," when you pick the right edge of the stair to add a support, you are prompted to define the support type. See Stair Component Type Properties.

To create a support component

  1. Open a plan or 3D view.
  2. To create a support component for an existing run or landing, select the stair, and on the Edit panel, click (Edit Stairs).

Stair assembly edit mode is active.

  3. Click Modify | Create Stair tabComponents panel (Support).
  4. In the Draw gallery, click (Pick Edges).
  5. Move the cursor over the run or landing edge to add the support, and click to select the edge.
  6. Optionally, select another edge to create another side support.

Consecutive supports are automatically connected with a mitered join.

  7. Note: To select the entire outside or inside boundary of a stair, move the cursor over the edge, press Tab until the entire boundary is highlighted, and click to select it. In this case, smooth supports are created with mitered joins.
  8. Click (Finish Edit Mode) to exit stair assembly edit mode.
