Shut Down a Revit Server Host for Maintenance

Before performing maintenance that requires shutting down a Revit Server Host machine, you must first shut down the Revit Server application on that machine.

The following procedure will ensure that all potential points of communication between Revit application workstations and the central models hosted on that machine are disabled.

  1. IMPORTANT: Notify team members that the Revit Server Host will be unavailable, and ask them to save and close any server-based workshared models that are hosted by that machine.
  2. Open the Revit Server Administrator, select the Revit Server Host to be shut down, and click (lock).
  3. On the Revit Server Host machine, launch the IIS Manager.
  4. In the IIS Application manager, shut down the Revit Server application pool (RevitServerAppPool2022).
  5. In the Windows Task Manager, on the Processes tab, click Show processes from all users, and end any Revit Server w3wp.exe (IIS worker) processes that are running.

    To identify which of these processes belong to Revit Server, do the following:

    1. Click View menuSelect columns.
    2. In the Select Process Page Columns dialog, select Command Line, and click OK.
    3. Sort the process list by Image Name, and locate the w3wp.exe entries.
    4. Expand the Command Line column. The Revit Server processes are those for which the value is -h <path>\RevitServerAppPool2022.config.
  6. Shut down the server machine.
  7. When maintenance is complete, restart the server machine.
  8. Restart RevitServerAppPool2022.
  9. In Revit Server Administrator, select the Revit Server Host that was shut down, and click (unlock).
  10. Notify team members that the server is available for use.
