Use this dialog box to create SHP file settings to control how COGO points and AutoCAD points are inserted into a drawing.
New Point Settings
Creates a new point settings file.
Open an Existing Point Settings File
Opens an existing point settings file.
Save Point Settings
Saves the current point settings file.
If the point settings file is named, the program saves the point settings file and does not request a new file name. Use the Save As Point Settings option if you need to save the point settings with a different name.
If the point settings file is unnamed, the Save Settings File dialog box is displayed and the point settings file is saved with the file name.
Save As Point Settings
Saves a copy of the current point settings under a new file name.
SHP File
Opens the Open Shapefile Information File dialog box so you can select a shapefile. You can then specify the shapefile attributes in the relevant point settings, such as for the Property Set setting.
Current SHP Formatting File Source
Displays the name of the current SHP file used for attributes and data in the individual point settings.
Add Point Setting
Creates a new point setting and adds it to the bottom of the list of point settings.
Delete Point Setting
Deletes the currently selected point settings from the list.
Point Settings List
Displays a list of point settings in the current point settings file.
- Point Setting Name
- Specifies the name of the point setting. Point setting names do not have to be unique.
- SHP File Name
- Specifies the name format of the SHP file. An asterisk (*) may be used as a wildcard for zero or more characters.
- Priority
- Allows you to control the point setting priority. The priority is used to control which point setting should be used if the imported point may be applied to more than one point setting.
- Description Key Set
- Specifies the description key set name that is used if a point setting match occurs. If the description key set is not present in the drawing, then it is ignored.
- Description Key
- Specifies the description key name that is used if a point setting match occurs. If the description key is not present in the drawing, then it is ignored. The key then provides the information for the point style, point label style, layer, and description. If the other point setting values are set, they will override the description key value.
- Point Name Format
- Specifies the point name format that is assigned to the point if a point setting match occurs. If a point name is already present, a numeric increment is added to the name.
- Raw Description
- Specifies the point raw description that is assigned to the point if a point setting match occurs.
- Point Style
- Specifies the point style that is assigned to the point if a point setting match occurs. If the point style is not present in the current drawing, then the default point style is applied.
- Point Label Style
- Specifies the point label style that is assigned to the point if a point setting match occurs. If the point label style is not present in the current drawing, then the default point style is applied.
- Layer Name
- Specifies the layer that the point is placed on. If the specified layer exists in the drawing, the point is placed on that layer.
If the specified layer does not exist in the drawing, the layer is created and the point is placed on the specified layer.
- Is 2D Point
- Specifies if the elevation of the point should be overwritten with zero elevation.
- Create AutoCAD Point
- Specifies whether an AutoCAD point should be created instead of a COGO point.
- Query
- Specifies the query that is used to determine if the point setting should be applied to the imported point.
- Property Set
- Specifies the property sets assigned to the point. The property set values are based on the SHP file attribute names.
- Point Groups

SHP Point Groups dialog box so you can specify a point group.
