Calculate plug and groove weld joints

  1. On the ribbon, click Environments tab Convert panel Plug/Groove Weld Calculator .
  2. In the Calculation of Statically Loaded Weld area of the Calculation tab, select the calculation method.
  3. In the Calculation tab, enter input parameters.
  4. Click Calculate to calculate the joint. Result values are displayed in the Results area on the right side of the Calculation tab.
  5. Click OK to insert weld calculation into Autodesk Inventor.

This procedure creates an example using the sample specifications.

  1. Start the Plug and Groove Weld Calculator.
  2. On the Calculation tab:
    • Set the Standard Calculation procedure Method from the Calculation of Statically Loaded Weld area.
    • Select the Weld Design: .
    • Set the Acting force to 2000 N.
    • Measure the Plate thickness from assembly - 10 mm.
    • Set the Weld Diameter to 8 mm.
    • Set the Number of Welds to 4.
    • Select the Weld Material - Structural Steel A572-Grade42.
    • Set the Safety Factor to 2.5.
  3. Click Calculate. See the results in the Results area.
  4. Click OK to insert calculation to the Autodesk Inventor assembly.
