A set of properties is defined for each family in a Content Center library. Family properties can be modified only for read/write families.

- Locate the family, right-click, and select Family Properties from the menu. The Family Properties dialog box is displayed.
- On the General tab:
- View or edit the family name and description.
- View or edit the standard-related properties.
- Change the Family Folder Name.
Content Center standard components are saved in the Content Center Files location defined in the Project file. By default, each part family has a separate storage folder for family member files. If appropriate, you can assign the same Family Folder Name for several families and use the same storage folder for placed family members. Ensure that all members of these families have a unique filename.
- View the library, where the family is saved.
- On the Parameters Mapping tab, view or edit the mapping between columns in family table and category or template parameters.
Note: Mapping cannot be changed for read/write families that are copies of Autodesk Inventor standard content with a link to source.Tip: You can map parameters of different data types. Ensure that the parameter values are convertible (for example a string value must be convertible to a numeric value).
- On the Thumbnail tab, view, edit, or replace the image:
- To edit the current thumbnail image, right-click the image, and select Copy Image to Clipboard. Then paste the image into your image editor, make the necessary changes, and save the image as a .bmp file. Click Browse and open the modified image.
- To replace the image, click Browse and open a .bmp file to be used as the thumbnail image.
- On the Link tab, review the creation method for the family. If the creation method is Copy To or Save Copy As, review the information about the parent family and link status.
- Click Apply to save the changes, and click OK to close the dialog box.
