About the Autodesk Inventor View Interface

When Inventor View is active, the main window appears, containing the graphics window, the toolbars, and the browser.

Main window

By default, the Standard toolbar is at the top and the browser is on the left.

A window-specific context menu is accessible through a right-click for all environments.

Graphics window

The graphics window appears when a file is open. When only one file is open the graphics window of the file is maximized. If more than one file is open, each file appears in its own graphics window. The window containing the file you are working on is called the active window. You can customize the display of graphics windows from the Windows drop-down menu.

Note: In the graphics area, two context menus are available: one for part or assembly files, and one for drawings. These menus are the same, except that the Rotate option is not available for drawings.

Toolbars

The standard toolbar contains the open, print, zoom, pan, display mode, and standard views commands. Each has a context menu giving more options.

Browser

The browser shows the hierarchical structure of parts, assemblies, presentations, and drawings. The browser is unique to each environment and displays the information for the active file.

Working with one or more monitors, you can undock any of the Inventor application browsers, and attach them to any application or windows screen edge, left, right, top, or bottom, either side by side, or stacked.

A contextual always-on-top option is available for all undocked browsers. Browser positions and settings persist from session to session.

Features are listed in the browser in the order they are created. A blue background behind a component name in the browser indicates that the component is selected. Selecting a component in the browser also highlights the component in the graphics window.

Note: Selecting a component in the graphics window does not highlight the component in the browser.

If components are missing from an assembly file, Inventor View alerts you, and the browser icons change to indicate which component is missing.

The browser context menu gives functions for operations on a feature, sketch, or constraint that you select.

Cursor symbols

As you use work in Inventor View, symbols often appear next to the cursor. These symbols indicate that you are operating in a certain mode, or that certain commands are available. Each has a context menu giving more information about the available options.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Ctrl+O Open a new document.

Ctrl+P Print the active document.

F1 Get to Help for the active command or dialog box.

F2 Pan the graphics window.

F3 Zoom in or out in the graphics window.

F4 Rotate objects in the graphics window.

F5 Return to the previous view.

F6 Display the drawing in the Iso Top Right view.

Shift + F3 Define an area of a part, assembly, or drawing to fill the graphics window.

Shift + F5 Advance to the next view.

Home Zooms a model so that all elements display in the graphics window.
