Tube Based Grooming window

Use the options in this window to specify settings for generating XGen guides from modeled tube geometry. See Create hairstyles using Tube Groom.

Tubes

Lists the names of tube geometry added to the Description. The geometry must be selected and added before the names display.

Guide Spacing

Sets how many guides are created from each tube.

The resolution of the tube geometry also affects the number of guides generated. The greater the number of spans in the tube geometry, the more guides are created.

Click Test to display the number of guides to be generated based on the Guide Spacing setting.

Guide Mask

You can use a Guide Mask to specify areas on the mesh surface where you do not want guides generated. Using a Ptex-based mask, paint black on the mesh to mask out guide generation. See Create a Ptex map to control primitives.

Cut Para

Specifies the length of each guide generated from the tube geometry.

When set to 1, each guide is set to the same length as the shortest guide. When set to 0.5 each guide is set to a value between its full length, based on the edge length of the tube, and the length of the shortest guide. When set to 0 Cut Para has no effect.

You can also use an expression, such as rand(), to set guide length.

CV Frequency

Sets the number of control vertices on the guides. Increasing this values increases the number of control points.

Texels Per Unit
Sets the texel resolution of the Ptex region map that is generated.

Click Test to display the map size based on the Texels Per Unit setting.

Note: The Texel Per Unit setting is important for maintaining edge fidelity.
