Fluids menu

Create

3D Container/ 2D Container
Lets you create 3D and 2D containers for a fluids effect.

Select Fluids > 3D Container > or Fluids Effects > 2D Container > to set Fluids 3D/ 2D Container Options.

Add/Edit Contents sub menu

Lets you select different ways to add fluid contents to a fluid container. For example, options in this menu let you add fluid emitters or gradients. For more information on this submenu options, see Fluids Add/Edit Contents submenu.

Get Example > Fluid or Ocean/Pond
Opens the Content Browser with either the Fluids Examples or Ocean Examples folder opened. Middle-drag a file from the Content Browser into your scene to open that sample scene containing a fluid or ocean effect. Use these examples to explore how fluids and oceans work and learn how to create your own effects, or modify them to customize the effects.
Ocean
Creates an ocean object, which is a flat NURBS plane with an ocean shader assigner to it.

Select Fluids > Ocean > to set Fluids Ocean Options.

Pond
Creates a pond object, which is a 2D fluid container that uses a spring mesh solver and a height field.

Select Fluids > Pond > to set Fluids Pond Options.

Edit

Extend Fluid
Lets you add voxels to the boundaries of the container, while maintaining the size and contents of each existing voxel.

Select Fluids > Extend Fluid > to set Extend Fluid Options.

Edit Fluid Resolution
Lets you change the resolution of your fluid container. Use this option for fluids with non-square voxels.

Select Fluids > Edit Fluid Resolution > to set Edit Fluid Resolution Options.

Make Collide
Lets you select a polygon or NURBS objects and make fluids collide rather than pass through them.

Select Fluids > Make Collide > to set Fluids Make Collide Options.

See also Make fluids collide with geometry.

Make Motion Field
Creates a Motion field for the selected object. You can add a Motion field to an object moving through a fluid. The effect of a Motion field on a fluid is similar to how a boat's propeller forms eddies, vortices, and a slipstream in the water. For example, for the animation of a boat pulling a water-skier through a fluid, you can apply a Motion field to the boat and the water-skies so that they appear to push through the water while they are in motion.

See Work with Fluid Effects motion fields and Create a fluid motion field

Ocean/Pond

Add Dynamic Locator submenu
Adds the selected dynamic locator type to an ocean or pond. For more information on this submenu option, see Add Dynamic Locator submenu.
Add Preview Plane
Adds a preview plane to an ocean effect. A preview plane shows a shaded patch of the ocean with displacement in shaded display mode. You can scale and translate it to preview different parts of the ocean. This plane is for preview only and will not render.

You can create this plane at the time you create the ocean by turning on Create preview plane. See Fluids Ocean Options.

Create Boat submenu

Lets you make objects float on a ocean or pond surface so that it can behave like a boat. For more information on this submenu options, see Create Boats submenu.

Create Wake
Lets you create wakes on Fluids oceans and ponds. Use wakes for boat and to add turbulence to an ocean, or generate bubbling and ripples.

Select Fluids > Create Wake > to set Fluids Create Wake Options. See also Create wakes.
