Tutorial B5: Linear Buckling Analysis of a Dome Lid

This tutorial demonstrates a simple linear buckling analysis of a dome lid model.

  1. The goal of this eigenvalue extraction analysis is to determine the lowest critical linear buckling load from the eigenvalues extracted.
  2. Typically, in a linear buckling analysis, a unit load is applied. Inventor Nastran then calculates an eigenvalue that, when multiplied by the applied load, gives the critical buckling load. In this case, you will use a unit pressure load.
  3. The dome lid is made of aluminum alloy.
  4. The units used in this analysis are inches, pounds, and seconds. The effects of gravity are not considered in this model.
