Substance Environments

Substance Panorama Video Captions: In VRED 2020.1, we have implemented the support of substance panoramas. The panoramas from substances can be accessed within the Material Editor, under Create/Convert > Create Environment > Substance Panorama. From here, just load the Substance Designer panorama file into VRED. Within VRED, you will have access to all values that are exposed within Substance Designer, so you can tweak them in the VRED scene directly, until you have found the perfect setting for your scene. This can be saved as a preset, as well.


Overview

Some Substances have a panorama channel, which is a spherical map. VRED can use this spherical map as a scene environment, with the benefit of a dynamic HDR inside VRED. Edit any of its attributes, including its lights.

Creating a Substance Environment

  1. In the Material Editor right-click context menu, select Create Environment > Substance Panorama.

  2. Locate an .sbsar file.

    Note:

    If a file is selected that does not contain a panorama channel, an error message appears.

  3. Click Open to load it and apply the calculated texture as the new environment image.
