Override Security on a Custom Object Instance

Editing the security of the custom object definition changes the security of each instance created in the Vault.

For example, editing the security for a custom object definition called Contacts would change the security for each instance of a Contact (e.g., Bob Smith, Marla Green, Bakersfield Motors, etc.)

However, if you want to customize the security for a particular custom object instance (e.g., only Bob Smith), use a security override.

Note: You must have permission in the custom object definition security to modify the security for a custom object instance. See Define Security for a Custom Object Definition for more information.

Perform a security override on a custom object instance

  1. Right-click on a custom object instance in the Vault and select Details.
  2. Select the Security tab to view and modify security for the instance.
  3. Notice the Security Mode field indicates that there is either state-based security or object-based security for the instance.
  4. Select the Security Override check box.
  5. Now that you are viewing the overridden security for the custom object instance, add users to the access control list (ACL) and modify their permissions, if needed.
  6. Click OK.
  7. The security override is applied to the custom object instance.
