Roundabout Properties: Arm: Rumble Strips

Rumble strips are used to control vehicle speeds by making it uncomfortable to travel over them at significant speed. In addition, travelling over rumble strips is noisy.

Expand an arm and click Rumble Strips in the left-hand pane. The Rumble Strips page is displayed.

Use the Rumble Strips tickbox to enable or disable the rumble strips.

Rumble strips start at the Outer Offset from Entry Intersection (furthest from the roundabout) and end closer to the roundabout at the Inner Offset from Entry Intersection. Both are measured along the offside (or splitter) definition line from the intersection of that line and the inscribed circle.

The Outer Strip Spacing is generally wider than the Inner Strip Spacing.

The Strip Width is measured perpendicular to the strip and does not vary.

The Striping Area Length Along Road is the distance between the start and end offsets.

The Strip Angle is measured relative to a line perpendicular to the offside definition line. Rotation is positive when the strips are turned away from the roundabout.

In all cases the Max and Min values represent the limiting values from the adopted design standard.
