To Create Sample Line Group References

You can create a reference to a sample line group data shortcut.

To create a reference to a data shortcut sample line group or individual sample lines

When you create a data reference to a sample line group data shortcut, you can specify which sample lines in the sample line group data shortcut to reference and which data sources to sample.

If data shortcuts have been created for the sampled sources, you can create references to the sampled sources when you create a reference to a sample line group. For more information, see About Sample Line Group Data Shortcuts and References.

Note: After the sample line group reference is created, you can create references to additional data sources and then update the sample lines by using the Sample More Sources command. For more information, see To Edit Sample Lines.

For information about creating data shortcuts for sample line groups, see About Sample Line Group Data Shortcuts and References and To Work With Data Shortcuts.

  1. In Toolspace, on the Prospector tab, ensure that the correct project folder is identified on the Data Shortcuts node.
  2. Expand the Data ShortcutsAlignments collection.
  3. Expand the parent alignment of the sample line group you want to reference.
  4. Right-click the desired sample line group and then click Create Reference.

The Create Sample Line Group Reference dialog box is displayed, in which you can optionally change the properties of the reference sample line group, as described in the following steps.

  5. Enter a Name for the sample line group.
Note: To name the sample line group, click its default name. Enter a new name, or use the name template.
  6. Specify a Sample Line Style and Sample Line Label Style or accept the default styles.
Note: You can specify the default styles and name templates in the CreateSampleLinesReference command settings.
  7. Click to select a layer.
Note: The sample line group is placed on the current layer by default.
  8. If you want to reference only some of the sample lines in the sample line group, click next to Select Sample Lines to open the Select Sample Lines dialog box. Use the Select Sample Lines dialog box to select individual sample lines or sample lines within a chainage range. By default, all sample lines in the sample line group are referenced into the drawing.
  9. Select the data sources to sample.
Note: The list includes data sources that exist in the current drawing and data sources for which data shortcuts have been created. If you select a data source that is a data shortcut, a reference to the sampled source is created when you click OK if it doesn't already exist in the drawing. For more information, see About Sample Line Group Data Shortcuts and References.
  10. Click OK.

A reference to the parent alignment is also created. The alignment name is displayed under the Alignments collection in the Prospector tree with a next to it. Expand the alignment name and the Sample Line Groups collection to view the sample line group reference.

To reference additional sample lines from a data shortcut sample line group

After creating a reference to a data shortcut sample line group, you can update the reference to add more sample lines. For example, if you added more sample lines to the sample line group in the source drawing, you can bring those sample lines into the current drawing by running the Create Reference command again.

Note: If you add sample lines to a sample line group for which you have already created a data shortcut, those sample lines are included in the data shortcut and can be referenced into the current drawing by using the following steps.

The Select Sample Lines dialog box is displayed. Sample lines that you have already referenced are marked with a tick and cannot be unselected.

  5. Select individual sample lines or sample lines within a chainage range.
  6. Click OK.
