To Apply Settings to Imported ArcGIS Data

Use settings templates to control the stylization, AutoCAD layer, and other settings for objects that are created in the drawing when ArcGIS data is imported.

You can select data in the ArcGIS layer to stylize by creating a query, and then you can apply specified settings to the queried data. Any data that is not affected by the query will be imported with the default settings.

Styles, layers, and sites must exist in the drawing in order to specify them in a settings template. For gravity pipes and structures, a default ArcGIS Network pipe network selection is available, or you can create a pipe network in the drawing prior to defining the settings template which you can then select. For point groups, a default ArcGIS Layer Name point group and the _All Points point group are available by default to select, or you can define a point group in the drawing prior to defining the settings template which you can then select.

Note: Settings templates are not supported for refreshing ArcGIS data. To apply a settings template to additional data, you must reimport the data source.

To specify a settings template

  1. Follow the steps in To Bring ArcGIS Data into Civil 3D to select the data to import.

After you click Add to My Design Project, the Import Layers dialog box is displayed.

  2. In the Import Layers dialog box, click the Set Active Folder icon to open the Select Active Folder dialog box. Specify the location for the settings template files and click Open.
Note: This is the location where the settings template JSON files are stored. To share these files across an organization, you can set the path to a network location or to a location in Autodesk Docs.
  3. Do one of the following to specify the import settings:
    • To import the objects with the default drawing settings, select <Default Settings> in the Specify Settings Template list and click Import.
Note: The default settings are read-only and use the default drawing settings that are specified for each type of object. These default settings for each object are listed at the bottom of the Settings Editor dialog box that is used for editing or creating a settings template.
    • To import the objects using an existing settings template, select the settings template from the Specify Settings Template list and click Import. If you want to edit or review the settings that are in the template, select the Edit button to display the Settings Editor dialog box. For more information, see the section below.
Note: Any object that does not have settings specified for it in the selected settings template will use the default settings.
    • To create a new settings template, click Add New to display the Settings Editor dialog box. For information about setting up the settings template, see the section below.

To specify settings for a settings template

  1. In the Settings Editor dialog box, specify a template name if you are creating a new template.
  2. Select the tab that corresponds to the data type that you want to create a setting for. Available tabs are COGO Point, Alignment, Feature Line, Parcel, Gravity Pipe, Structure, AutoCAD Objects.
  3. Click Add to add a new setting row.
  4. Enter a name for the setting.
  5. Enter the Source Layer. This is the name of the layer that you selected in the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS and it is also visible in your Content location in ArcGIS.
  6. Click in the Query field to open the Query Builder dialog box. The query determines which data the setting will be applied to. Define a query for the data and click OK. For more information, see Query Builder dialog box.
  7. Define the other settings for the row in the Settings Editor. For more information for the settings for each object type, see the Settings Editor dialog box.
  8. Click OK to return to the Import Layers dialog box.
  9. Click Import to import the data.
