Initiate Cross-Product Workflows in AutoCAD

The available Cross-Product Workflow options in AutoCAD are:

Open in Inventor

To create a 3D Inventor Factory layout from a 2D AutoCAD drawing:

On the Factory tab, click Cross-Product Workflows > Open in Inventor .

During the Open in Inventor process:

When you click Open in Inventor, an Inventor 3D model of your layout opens in Inventor. The AutoCAD 2D drawing remains open so that you can quickly get back to work in AutoCAD. The LayoutData file keeps your data connected and current.

Open in Navisworks

To create a Navisworks Factory layout from a 2D AutoCAD drawing:

  1. Create or open an existing drawing in AutoCAD Factory. (AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD Mechanical are supported.)
  2. On the Factory tab, click Cross-Product Workflows > Open in Navisworks .

Navisworks opens and a 3D equivalent of your 2D layout displays. Any 2D assets and chainable assets from AutoCAD are automatically populated with the 3D equivalent of individual assets (if they exist) in the new layout.

What if a 2D layout contains XREF's?

Any XREF's (External References) attached to a 2D layout are automatically converted to sublayouts (subassemblies) when you open your layout in Inventor Factory. If the XREF contains any 2D assets, those assets are replaced with their 3D equivalents in Inventor.
