Create and group lights

Create lights and sort them into groups in the Light Editor to disable or isolate multiple lights simultaneously, and for a more streamlined and organized interface.

To create a light

Click any of the (point light), (spotlight), (area light), (directional light), and (volume light) icons to create a light.

To group lights

Click New Group or to create a group, and middle-drag and drop lights to include or exclude them from a group. Nested groups are supported.

Each light can only belong to one group.

Select the light group and its properties are displayed in the Property Editor, where you can add or remove lights.

Right-click the light membership list to access additional options via the context menu. Delete removes the light from the scene, and should be used with caution.

You can export your light groups as a template to reuse them in another scene.

Tip:

Select the light group and click so that its light membership list remains in the Property Editor even when the light group is not selected. You can then add lights to the group by selecting them from the viewport or the Outliner.

Referencing a scene with lights

Grouping and ordering of lights is not supported through references. When referencing a scene with light sources, any light groups within the referenced scene are ignored. New light groups can be created in the destination (main) scene to group and order both referenced lights and new lights. However, if a reference is unloaded, the group membership and ordering of the referenced lights will not be preserved when the reference is later reloaded again.
