Upgrade the Analytical Model

Learn what happens when a model is upgraded to the new analytical model and about the steps to take to ensure a correct transition.

Starting with Revit 2023, during the upgrade process of files from releases prior to Revit 2023, the analytical model is subject to some changes:

• Analytical columns, analytical beams, analytical braces, and analytical wall foundations are migrated to analytical members. Their shape, position, parameters, and relationship with their physical counterpart are also migrated.
• Analytical floors, analytical wall, and analytical foundation slabs are migrated to analytical panels. Their shape, position, parameters, and relationship with their physical counterpart are also migrated.
  Note: Curved panels are migrated but are not editable.
• Analytical columns, analytical beams, and analytical braces that were created using the Spline command, are not migrated to the new analytical members. You can create analytical members only using the Line, Arc and Ellipse commands. Once the model is upgraded you need to recreate the missing analytical members using the available commands.
• Analytical isolated foundations are not migrated. All the related data are deleted.
• Analytical links, boundary conditions and loads are migrated as they are. For these elements there is no change in behavior or capabilities.
• Analytical model settings are not needed anymore. All the checks and updates are done on-demand. The parameters and settings are available for each functionality.
• Annotations for analytical elements are deleted.
• Schedules based on analytical elements are deleted.
• Filters using information for analytical elements are updated.

If the upgraded model contains at least one analytical element, a warning will be displayed at the end of the upgrade process: "Some annotations, schedules, view templates, filters, and views related to analytical elements might be modified or lost during the upgrade process."

Note: After upgrade, the link between the physical model and its analytical counterparts is using an on-demand updater.
