You may encounter this warning when you try to create a local model.
Issue: When you try to create a local model from an existing central model, you receive a message that
Revit could not create a local model from <centralfilename.rvt>. This could be due to a network problem. You can try again or
Contact Support.
Cause:
Revit is not able to either read the central model or write the local model.
Solution: To check if the issue is with reading the central model, try opening the central model directly (i.e., uncheck the create new local checkbox).
- If the central model opens, then the issue is with writing the local model. Make sure that the
Revit Options setting for
Default path for user files (File Locations) is set to a valid location where you can read/write files. This is the location where the local model will be created. If the location is invalid or
Revit is unable to write to it, then this error could occur.

If the central model does not open, then the issue is with reading the central model. To determine whether you can access the central model, try to copy the central model from the network to your local system.
Additional items to check:
- Make sure you have at least 5 GB of hard disk space free and follow the minimum
system requirements. Insufficient disk space on the primary drive, or on a secondary drive if used to create local models, could lead to this error.
- Check that all users have updated to the latest release of
Revit.
