Duplicate an Asset of a Material

Duplicate appearance, physical or thermal assets associated with a material in the Material Editor panel.

When you duplicate an asset, a copy of the selected asset is stored in the asset library for the current project. Duplicating an asset creates an editable version of the selected asset, while leaving the original asset unchanged.

Note: If you edit an asset that is used by a material, any other material in the model that also uses that asset will change. When duplicating a material, select the option that corresponds to the desired behavior. Select Duplicate Material and Assets or Duplicate Using Shared Assets. See Create a Material.

To duplicate an asset of a material

  1. Select the material in the Material Browser dialog.
  2. In the Material Editor panel, click the tab for the asset to be duplicated (for example, Appearance, Physical, or Thermal).
Note: Revit LT does not support physical or thermal assets for materials. The Physical and Thermal tabs do not appear in the Material Editor panel, and some of the functionality described in this section does not apply to Revit LT.
  3. Click Duplicate Asset .

The duplicated asset is copied to the asset library for the current project.

  4. Click Apply or OK.
