You can lock an object or selection of objects in a view to the ViewCube, and examine individual objects with the ViewCube.
Locking a selection of objects to the ViewCube specifies the center of the current view and the distance from center for the view based on the selected objects. Lock to Selection is only present in the menu when an element is selected. The Lock to Selection option is enabled until it is turned off from the ViewCube context menu or by clicking the Lock to Selection icon (next to the Home view icon).
When you select or deselect objects with Lock to Selection enabled, the center or distance from view center doesn't change when the view orientation changes. Zooming to the extents of a model will not occur when Lock to Selection is enabled, even if the ViewCube tool is set to zoom to extents after each view orientation change.
To lock to the current selection
If Lock to Selection is checked when a view orientation change occurs, the ViewCube uses the selected objects to calculate the center of the view and zooms to the extents of the selected objects. When the option is unchecked, the ViewCube uses the selected objects to calculate the center of the view and zooms to the extents of the model.
To examine an individual object with the ViewCube
The ViewCube reorients the view of the model based on the center point of the selected objects.
