To Create a Rule that Defines a Default Material

By default, parts do not have material assignments when a scenario is created (unless a rule automatically assigns a material). Such parts are listed under the Unassigned Material branch in the Design Study bar.

To specify a default material for all parts when a scenario is created (including volumes automatically created by void fill)**

1. Open the Rules Manager.
2. Click the Default material rule button.
3. Specify the desired material.
4. Check the box to Automatically apply for unassigned part.
5. Click OK.

This special rule is saved as part of the user preferences, and is not displayed on the Rule Manager.

To define the environment settings for a default material assigned with a rule

1. Click the Edit environment reference... button on the Rule Creation dialog.
2. On the Material Environment dialog, specify if the material properties should be Fixed or Variable.
3. If the material is operate at conditions different from the scenario environment, specify the Pressure and Temperature as appropriate.
