To Work With Point Cloud Level of Detail and Point Size

How to control the number of displayed points and the size of the points to help manage program performance and decrease visual noise.

Set Point Cloud Point Size

1. Select one or more point clouds.
2. Click Point Cloud contextual tab > Display panel and drag the Point Size slider to the value you want.
   Find
   Tip: Increasing the point size reduces detail, but speeds up display.

Note: You can also use the POINTCLOUDPOINTSIZE system variable to change this setting.

Set Point Cloud Level of Detail

1. Select one or more point clouds.
2. Click Point Cloud contextual tab > Display panel and drag the Level of Detail (LOD) slider to the value you want.
   Find
   Tip: Decreasing the level of detail value reduces the number of points, but speeds up display.

Note: You can also use the POINTCLOUDLOD system variable to change this setting.

Set the Maximum Number of Points in the Drawing

• At the Command prompt, enter POINTCLOUDPOINTMAX and then enter a new value.

Increasing the limit improves visual fidelity for the point clouds. Lowering the limit improves system performance.
