About Revision Lines (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

The revision list is a block with line blocks. You can insert the list any place in the drawing or in a title block. The revision list is standard-dependent and you can insert each revision list from top to bottom or from bottom to top. You can also change the insertion point for the list using the AMOPTIONS command.

After you have finished the design work on the assembly drawing, you activate the revision list command.

Use AMCATALOG or XATTACH to insert multiple detail drawings from an assembly drawing. If you have not changed any xref blocks, it may appear as if nothing happens. Internally, however, the revision list command regularly checks the date of the block. If you leave the assembly drawing in order to work on the detail drawing, we recommend that you turn on the Revision list command. If you modify an xref block, a dialog box appears when the changes complete.

You can make entries on how the changes are carried out. If you confirm your selection with OK, the following messages appear:

Add changes to revision list <Y>: Press ENTER.

Note:
  • If you close the detail drawing and reopen the assembly drawing, the program prompts you to insert a revision line.
  • If the Revision list setting is off (default), then changes are revised. This behavior is normal during the design stage.
  • If the Revision option is on, then the dates of the previous changes are compared with the current date. If multiple xrefs exist, then all of the dates are scrutinized. If you have altered one or more of the xrefs, the list updates accordingly.
  • AutoCAD Mechanical toolset saves the xrefs and their comments. The revision list updates and, depending on the number of xrefs altered, changes accordingly.
  • This shows whether numerous xrefs have changed, or whether one xref has been subject to several changes, and so on.
