Sets parameters for design of a worm gear.
Access: |
Ribbon: Design tab Power Transmission panel Worm Gear |
Defines the worm gear. |
|
Helix Angle |
Specifies the helix angle. You can insert only positive values from 0 to 55. To change direction, click Flip next to the edit field. |
Helix Angle Flip |
Switches the helix direction. |
Preview |
Displays the schematic image of the worm gear dimensions. Click Worm, Worm gear to see appropriate calculated results. Note: For description of the calculated parameters in the Results area, see Engineer's Handbook.
|
Center Distance |
Displays a list of all combinations of values of module/circular pitch, number of teeth, worm diameter factor, and worm gear unit correction, based on the worm number of teeth, gearing ratio and selected center distance. |
Specifies the type (Component, no model) and placement of a gear. |
|
There are 2 methods to insert a worm gear. According to your selection, commands for placement are enabled in the Worm and Worm Gear boxes.
|
|
Cylindrical Face |
Selects a cylindrical face. |
Start plane |
Selects a start face or work plane. Click Flip to flip the start plane. To see the 3D preview you need to select the axis or cylindrical face. |
To display the More Options area, click More in the right lower corner of the Design Tab. It displays additional options for worm gear design. |
|

To display the Results area on the right side of the Calculation and Design tabs, double-click the double line on the right or click the chevron.
The area displays the calculated values and the key strength check. Values are calculated when you click Calculate.
The units of the results values can be changed. Double-click the specified value you want to change.
For description of the calculated parameters in the Results area, see Engineer's Handbook.
Displays the reports about calculation. To open the Summary of Messages area at the bottom of the Calculation and Design tabs, double-click the double line at the bottom of the tabs or click the chevron at the bottom of the tabs.
Graphical preview of the designed worm gear is presented in the Autodesk Inventor window when you specify the worm gear placement (cylindrical face must be selected). Preview changes according to changes made in Worm Gears Generator.
