To select pairs of points from two separate point clouds

Use Pairs to select pairs of points from two separate point-clouds.

For example, you can use this option with Register to register two overlapping point-clouds.

To pick pairs of points from two point-clouds:

  1. Display the point-clouds in the CAD view.
  2. Click Point Cloud tab > Select panel > Pick Mode > Pairs.
  3. In the first point cloud, left-click the points that you want to match to the overlapping area of the second point-cloud. The selected points are displayed as numbered blue squares so you can identify the order in which they were selected. You must pick at least three points. For example:

To deselect a point, left-click it again; to deselect all selected points, press the Esc key.

  4. In the second point cloud, left-click the points that correspond to the points you selected in step 1. The selected points are displayed as numbered red squares. For example:

You must select one point for each point selected in the first point-cloud. The locations of points in the second point-cloud do not have to correspond exactly to the locations of the points in the first point-cloud, but the closer the correspondence, the more accurate the initial match between point-clouds.

  5. To register the point clouds, click Edit panel > Register.
