To create a Single Point on the Fly item

Single points on the fly are the same as guided single points except that you do not have to enter a nominal value to guide the probe. You can measure single points as geometric items anywhere on the part.

Note: The Geometry tab > Points panel > Probed > Single Point On-the-Fly option is available only when creating inspections for CNC and Manual machines.

To probe single points on the fly:

  1. Open a Geometric group in the Sequence Tree.
  2. Click Geometry tab > Points panel > Probed > Single Point On-the-Fly. The Geometry On the fly dialog is displayed and the CAD view is displayed full screen so you can take points anywhere on the part.

  3. Choose an option in the list to specify the compensation you want to use. Select:
    • No compensation to return the stylus centre as the probe position.
    • Use automatic compensation to compensate for the probe radius along the probing direction.
    • Use compensation along to compensate for the probe radius along an axis. Select the axis from the list that is displayed when you select this option.

The Probe Dia box displays the diameter of the probe.

  4. Select the Datum relative to which you want to report the coordinates.

This datum is also used to compensate the probe radius along the given axis.

  5. Probe the point. PowerInspect displays the coordinates of the point in the right of the window.
  6. Use the Geometry on the fly dialog to specify how you want to treat the point: Click:

    to delete all probed points.

to delete the last probed point.

to save all probed points to the group. If the button is deselected, the points are not saved; this enables you to probe points for reference only.

to save the probed points and close the Geometry On the fly dialog. You can view the details of the point on the Info tab.

to close the dialog without saving any of the probed points.

to display the Inspection Point tab onthe Measure Parameters dialog.
