To create a probe path using parametric units

The by parametric units option in the Surface Parameters dialog enables you to use the model's surface parameterisation to control the density and location of probe points on a surface. The boxes that control the stepover and pitch distances of the probe path depend on the u and v directions of the selected surface.

In this example, the U box specifies the stepover distance between rows, and the V box specifies the pitch distance between points. Both values are expressed in the parametric units specified for the surface.

If you do not want to probe the whole surface, select the Limit check box for a dimension and use the Start and End boxes to restrict the probe path. In this example, the probe path is restricted to the left of the surface by specifying v limits between the Start and End positions of the selected surface.

You can also change the direction of the probe path using the Pattern direction list. In this example, the U and V distances remain unchanged, but each row is probed in the u direction.
