In the Parameters for Feature Fitting dialog, you can use the outlying points filter to control the boundary of a selection, for example when you want to remove unwanted points that belong to adjacent features.
PowerInspect determines the boundary points of a selection by counting the number of points within a specified radius of each point.
You can set the following options:
- Method — Specifies how the outlying points filter is applied:
- Enabled applies the filter using the radius value you enter in the Radius field.
- Disabled does not apply the filter when selecting points.
- Automatic applies the filter and automatically determines the Radius and Fraction to be used.
- Radius — Enter a value to use a specific radius.
- Fraction — Specifies the percentage of points to be filtered out.
The following example shows a selection of points for a cylinder when no outlying points filter is applied:
