To change how point clouds are acquired during scanning

Use the Point Cloud Acquisition Options dialog to control how PowerInspect treats points measured with a laser scanner.

  1. Play the Point Cloud item. PowerInspect switches to full-screen view.
  2. On the Point-Cloud Tool dialog, click the Parameters button.
  3. To project acquired points onto the model:
    1. Select Project acquired points on the fly.
    2. Enter a value in the Proximity criteria box to specify the maximum distance from the nominal at which points are accepted. Points exceeding this distance are not recorded.
  4. To reduce the number of acquired points:
    1. Select Filter the incoming points to reduce density.
    2. Enter a value in the Filter tolerance box. A point is recorded only when its distance from the preceding point exceeds the tolerance distance.
  5. By default, the full-screen view automatically adjusts to display all acquired points. To also display all visible items, select Automatic zooming.
  6. To reject acquired points below a specified plane:
    1. Select Use a clipping plane to limit data acquisition.
    2. Choose a plane from the list.
    3. Enter a value in the Offset box to specify the maximum distance from the plane at which points are accepted. Points exceeding this distance are not recorded.
    4. To display the excluded points below the plane during scanning, select Show the rejected points as a selection. The points are displayed in the Rejected colour that is specified in the Options dialog. The colour is black by default.
Note: The Point-Cloud Tool dialog is available only when creating inspections for CNC and Manual machines.
