About Autodesk Docs

AutoCAD Plant 3D collaboration project files are hosted in Autodesk Docs.

When projects are shared in AutoCAD Plant 3D through the Collaboration for Plant 3D service, the project files are uploaded to the Project Files parent folder in Autodesk Docs.
Note: It is important that you use the AutoCAD Plant 3D desktop application to upload and organize your project-related documents and models. File management operations, version control, or other collaboration tasks should not be performed in Autodesk Docs. These tasks should be done in the AutoCAD Plant 3D desktop application.
To take advantage of Plant 3D collaboration, you need the following:

Folder Permissions

Primarily, AutoCAD Plant 3D checks the folder permissions within Autodesk Docs for access management. The permission levels for folders within Autodesk Docs are defined as follows:

Permission Levels Actions
View View only
View and Download files View and download files, add private markups, and create issues.
Create View + Download + Publish markups View and download files, and create issues.
View + Download + Publish markups + Upload View, download, and upload files, and create issues.
Edit View + Download + Publish markups + Upload + Edit Create folders, share your own files with members, view and edit any other files in that folder, and publish markups.
Manage Full administrative controls Create folders, share files with members and view and edit any other files in that folder. With Manage permission, you can carry out the same folder tasks as a project administrator.

Recommended Permission Levels for AutoCAD Plant 3D Projects

You can assign appropriate permissions levels to each team member collaborating on Plant 3D projects.

Viewer (View and Download Files)

Anyone who needs to access the Plant 3D project should, at a minimum, have permission to view and download files from the project's root folder.

Note: Although, the VIEW access allows viewing of files within Autodesk Docs in a web browser, AutoCAD Plant 3D requires VIEW+DOWNLOAD as the minimum access. This is because AutoCAD Plant 3D needs to download files to the local machine to view them.

Drafter/Editor (View + Download + Publish Markups + Upload + Edit)

Drafters should have Edit permissions to view, download, publish markups, upload, and edit. These permissions can be managed for each folder. For example, you can allow only designers to edit models, and only drafters to edit P&IDs.

Permissions are automatically cascaded to the folders beneath them. However, increasing permissions for a subfolder (for example, P&IDs) does not extend increased permissions to the project folder above it.

CAD Admin (Full Administrative Controls)

For CAD administrators, it is recommended to provide Manage (full administrative controls) permission to the project root folder to enable editing of the project settings. The view, download, publish markups, upload, and edit permissions in the root folder offer similar capabilities, but the Manage permission is particularly useful for CAD administrators as it provides additional capabilities.

Folder Permission Levels Example
Folder Name CAD Administrator Piping Designer/3D Modeler P&ID Drafter Pipe Spec Editor
Project Root Full administrative controls View and Download files View and Download files View and Download files
Isometric Full administrative controls View + Download + Publish Markups + Upload + Edit View and Download files View and Download files
Orthos Full administrative controls View + Download + Publish Markups + Upload + Edit View and Download files View and Download files
PID_DWG Full administrative controls View and Download files View + Download + Publish Markups + Upload + Edit View and Download files
Plant_3D_Models Full administrative controls View + Download + Publish Markups + Upload + Edit View and Download files View and Download files
Report_Templates Full administrative controls View and Download files View and Download files View and Download files
Spec_Sheets Full administrative controls View and Download files View and Download files View + Download + Publish Markups + Upload + Edit

Roles in Autodesk Docs

Autodesk Docs includes Roles in the Account Admin section, allowing you to assign a role with default permissions (for example, as a drafter) and add team members to that role. However, you can still override these permissions for each Plant project folder as necessary.

For more information, see the Roles topic in the Autodesk Docs Help.
