Video: Fill Gaps in a Fabrication Model

Use Trim/Extend, Quick Connect, or Route and Fill to fill gaps in a fabrication model for ductwork, pipework, or electrical containment.

This video demonstrates the following:

  1. Use the Quick Connect tool to fill a gap between a fitting and another fabrication part where no additional fittings are needed.
  2. Use the Route and Fill tool to add parts from one open connector to another.
  3. Use the MEP Fabrication Parts palette to filter the list of available fittings and limit the number of solutions.

Fill gaps in a Revit fabrication model more efficiently with the Quick Connect and Route and Fill tools.

Use the Quick Connect tool to fill a gap between a fitting and another fabrication part where no additional fittings are needed. Select a fabrication fitting with an open connector . Right-click and click Quick Connect or simply drag from the starting connector . Click an open connector on another fabrication part to establish the end of the route . Quick Connect is useful for stretching an offset or taper, or dragging a bend.

Use the Route and Fill tool to add parts from one open connector to another, or from an open connector to a point along a straight. The Route and Fill tool provides one or more solutions depending on the service. You can narrow the number of solutions by filtering the fittings used.

For example, to fill a gap in a pipe run, select an open straight and start the Route and Fill tool. To connect it to another straight, click Cut Into. As you move the cursor, the Route and Fill tool indicates where connections can be made. Click to select a connection point. View the possible solutions.

The MEP Fabrication Parts palette displays all the parts used in the available solutions. A blue dot indicates that a part is used in the currently selected solution. As you position the cursor on a part in the list, the part is highlighted in the drawing area. To get to the desired solution faster, use the MEP Fabrication Parts palette to filter the list of available fittings and limit the number of solutions. Click Finish to accept a solution.
