Video: Properties Palette

Use the Properties palette in Revit to view and modify instance properties on elements in your model.

This video demonstrates the following:

1. Modify Type and Instance Properties.
2. Change element Types.
3. Switch between analytical and physical properties.

Note: This video was recorded using Revit 2022. When using a newer software release, you may notice differences in functionality and user interface.

Use the properties palette in Revit to view and modify instance properties on elements in your model. The Properties palette is open by default when launching Revit.

However if you close it, you can reopen the palette by navigating to the properties panel under the Modify tab and selecting the properties button.

You can also right click on the drawing area and select Properties from the menu.

The Properties palette can be used to change the family type, access the type properties dialog and modify, and modify the properties of a selected view. If more than one element is selected, than the properties of both elements are displayed. The sections and categories aren't static and will change depending on which element is selected in the drawing. You can use instance and type properties to change elements to a property or type in the model. If we select this door, we can change the sill height in this individual instance. Or choose to edit the sill height for all doors of this type by editing the type properties. Use the type selector to change the selected family type or set the family type that will be used as you place elements in your model. Let's change this door type from a double flush to a double glass type.

First, select the door in the view. Then use the type selector to change the element type. Edit type parameters of an element by clicking the edit type button. The type properties dialog will display allowing you to view and modify the type parameters of a selected element. Let's select the floor in this drawing. Now click Edit Type. Here, you can view and modify the properties for the selected floor. The drop down menu next to the edit type button allows you to switch between different property types in the selected element

For example, when we select this floor we can view both physical and analytical properties. Use the properties palette to view and modify properties in your Revit model.
