Find an assortment of layout changes, updates, and improvements in the Annotation and Connector modules, as well as in the newly renamed GPU Information, About and Licensing dialogs, and Preferences Editor in 2025.2. You will also find a float value precision change of 6.
Video captions: With our ongoing user experience development, we improved, for example, the Annotation module. If you're working heavily with annotations, you will be happy to hear that we can built in our advanced search feature, which makes finding and selecting specific annotations very easy, especially on huge scenes with many annotations. And, additionally, for a better overview, you can put annotations into groups. We also implemented the slider for an easy expansion of the tree, similar to other modules in VRED.
The GL Info window is now renamed to the GPU Information and has a reworked UI for a quicker overview of the important information, like the driver versions and memory usage.
In the Scenegraph, we added an extra button in the search area. This gives you the option to limit your search to the selected hierarchy, instead of the entire scene file, which is also working when pressing Ctrl+F on the keyboard. This speeds up your workflow when searching for specific nodes.
To improve the Annotation module, we have introduced group creation (Ctrl + G
), where annotations can be dragged and dropped into a group for better organization. When unneeded, a group of annotations can be hidden by unchecking the box in front of the group to control their visibility.
We also added the following tools to improve searches:
Depth Search, which can be found in other modules, is used for searching within groups. This makes finding and selecting specific annotations very easy, especially on huge scenes with many annotations. Search results are sorted alphabetically, with groups remaining at the top of the list.
On Selected Hierarchy - Restricts the search to a selected hierarchy. It searches the selected branch for nodes containing the search string. You can also use the shortcut, Ctrl + F
(Find) to set the search bar in focus. Enter a string, click Enter, then enable to only search the selected branch for content matching the string.
The live search feature is only enabled when NOT using the new On Selected Hierarchy feature.
Select the branch to be searched.
Do any of the following:
Enter a search string in the Search field.
Press the Enter key.
The slider at the bottom makes it easy to expand and collapse the node structure of the list tree, similar to other modules in VRED.
In the past, due to floating point imprecision, sometimes numeric input fields didn't display the value entered. For example, 123.1 would lead to 123.099998.
In 2025.2, float values have a precision of 6. This means 1000.123 will be displayed as 1000.12 and 1000.129 as 1000.13. The Glow/Glare controls are just one place where you will notice this change.
In the Help menu, we renamed GL Info to GPU Information and adjusted the styling. The content is streamlined and focuses on what's most relevant for you. It now provides GPU stats for each graphics card used, such as the kind of graphics card, driver, minimum and maximum video memory used, and whether memory is shared. For OpenGL, it provides the image units, combined image units, as well as the maximum texture limits for array layers and dimensions. When displayed, you can still interact with VRED. Find it under Help > GPU Information.
The improved layout of the License and About dialogs has enhanced their readability. You will also find the text background color is now consistent with the rest of VRED's UI.
The layout of the Connector has been modified to follow the current modernization standards.

We added to the search bar of the preferences. It restricts the search to a selected hierarchy.
Search a selected branch for nodes containing the search field string. Using the shortcut, Ctrl + F
(Find), sets the search bar in focus and enables . Click this link for use.
We also renamed the Extended Reality > HMD preference to XR Options.
