Remote Roots

Some on-premise database data is not stored in the database file itself, but as separate files in remote root folders.

Remote root folders do not have to be on the same drive, or even the same machine, as the on-premise database.

Editing of remote root locations is restricted to database owners when user permissions are enabled and the Protect Global Settings options is on.

Note: Everyone working with a particular on-premise database should use the same remote root folders.

Setting remote root locations

Note:

To set remote root locations

  1. Select the Database managementSet remote roots option from the File menu. This displays the Set Remote Roots dialog.
  2. Set locations for each remote root by typing the pathname of the folder, or browse for a folder using the button.

Files will be stored in a sub-folder of the specified Remote Root. The sub-folder name is the Unique Database Identifier for the on-premise database.

For information about the files stored in the remote root folder, see File Locations.
