Local folders are directories where working copies of files are stored. There are two types of local folder:
Only one of each local folder is required, even if working with more than one on-premise database. Data for each database is stored in a sub-folder of the local folder. The sub-folder name is the Unique Database Identifier .
Local folders should, if possible, be on the users machine. Accessing local folders via a network will seriously degrade the performance of InfoAsset Manager and may also affect the performance of the network.
There are several reasons why data is extracted from a database and kept in local folders for processing:
Speed |
InfoAsset Manager will run considerably faster if the regularly used data is kept on the local machine. |
Network Traffic |
If all data is on the network file server there will be a big increase in network traffic that may put a strain on the network, especially in a workgroup environment. |
Format |
The format of the data has been converted to work with a particular part of InfoAsset Manager or one of the associated programs. |
Transitory data is single user data. If, for example, more than one user wants to look at the same network, separate copies are made in both their local folders.
The file is created when the database is first opened.
The file is kept synchronised with the real database automatically. If you delete the file, or change the location of your Local Working Folder, you will have to open the database again as if you are connecting to it for the first time.
A message will be displayed to warn that uncommitted files will now be inaccessible. Changes to version controlled items should be committed before changing the location of the local folder.
This button is disabled if the selected folder location contains the current database. This is to prevent the possible removal of required files from the current database. If this occurs, change the folder location, and try again.
All files except copies of networks with changes that have not yet been committed will be removed.
